2. Skilled Nominated Visa – Subclass 190

The Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) is a state-sponsored permanent visa.

Who it’s for

Applicants nominated by an Australian State or Territory. Occupation must be on the state occupation list. Requires points test and invitation

Key benefits

Permanent residency. Bonus points for state nomination. Access to state-specific opportunities. Live, study, or work in the nominating state

3. Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa – Subclass 491

The Subclass 491 visa is a regional provisional visa for skilled workers.

Who it’s for

Requires state nomination or eligible family sponsorship. Must live and work in designated regional areas. Points-tested visa

Key benefits

Stay in Australia for up to 5 years. Full-time work and study rights. Pathway to permanent residency (Subclass 191). Priority processing in regional areas

4. Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa – Subclass 191

The Subclass 191 visa is a permanent residency visa for eligible holders of Subclass 491 or certain regional provisional visas.

Must have lived and worked in regional Australia, Must have held an eligible provisional visa. Must meet income and residence requirements

Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa – Subclass 489 (Closed to new applicants)

The Subclass 489 visa was a provisional regional visa that allowed skilled workers to live and work in regional Australia.

  • Now replaced by the 491 visa

  • Existing 489 visa holders may still transition to permanent visas
