At 3 Bees Education and Visa Services, we help families understand every option clearly and choose the right pathway with confidence.

Know Who We Are

What Is a Parent Visa in Australia?

A Parent Visa allows parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to live in Australia.

Depending on the visa type, parents may be able to:

  • Live in Australia temporarily or permanently

  • Access Medicare

  • Stay long term with their children and grandchildren

Parent visas are highly regulated and require careful planning before lodging.

Types of Parent Visas

Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143 and 173)

This is the faster permanent parent visa option but comes with higher government charges.

Key features:

  • Faster processing than non contributory visas

  • Direct pathway to permanent residency

  • Access to Medicare and full residency benefits

This option suits families who want certainty and shorter waiting times.

Non Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 103)

This visa has lower government fees but very long waiting periods.

Key features:

  • Permanent residency

  • Extremely long processing queues

  • Suitable only for long term future planning

Choosing this visa without advice can lead to unrealistic expectations.

Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804)

For parents who meet Australia’s aged pension age and are already in Australia.

Key features:

  • Onshore application

  • Parent can usually remain in Australia during processing

  • Very long processing times

Strategic advice is essential before applying for this visa.

Sponsored Parent Temporary Visa (Subclass 870)

A temporary visa allowing parents to stay in Australia for up to 3 or 5 years.

Key features:

  • No balance of family test required

  • Faster processing

  • No permanent residency pathway

  • Ideal for extended family visits

This visa is popular for parents who want long stays without permanent migration.

How 3 Bees Education and Visa Services Supports Your Parent Visa Journey

At 3 Bees Education and Visa Services, we understand that bringing parents to Australia is an emotional and complex process. Our mission is simple: to make your parent visa journey clear, stress free, and successful. We work closely with families to assess eligibility, explain the most suitable parent visa options, and guide sponsors through financial and legal requirements. From your first consultation to the final visa decision by the Department of Home Affairs, we provide honest advice, careful application preparation, and ongoing support, so you can reunite your family in Australia with confidence and peace of mind.

Balance of Family Test Explained

Most permanent parent visas require the Balance of Family Test.

This means:

-  At least half of the parent’s children live permanently in Australia
   OR

-  More children live in Australia than in any other country

Failing this test can make a parent ineligible for certain visas. At 3 Bees, we assess this early to avoid wasted time and money.

Sponsorship and Financial Requirements

Parent visas require an eligible sponsor, usually the child living in Australia. Sponsors must be settled in Australia, meet character requirements, and in some cases satisfy income thresholds. Certain parent visas also require an Assurance of Support, which is a financial commitment to help cover the parent’s costs while in Australia. Understanding these obligations early is essential to avoid delays or refusal.

Common Challenges With Parent Visa Applications

Many parent visa applications face difficulties due to choosing the wrong visa subclass, failing the balance of family test, poor financial planning, or unrealistic expectations about processing times. Applications lodged without professional guidance are especially vulnerable, and once submitted, parent visas are often difficult to change or correct.
