7 Reasons For Student Visa Grant

Every student who aims to study in Australia must tick a few boxes in the visa grant checklist for their dreams to come true. There are criteria for the application that will result in refusals if the Genuine temporary entrant “GTE” criteria are not met.

So, we are sharing the top 7 reasons for the student visa grant. These are the details you need to focus on if you wish to start your educational plan in Australia. To attain the student visa, you need to prove to the Department of Home Affairs that you met the following vital requisites.

General Temporary Entrant

GTE is the first criteria you need to meet to become a student in Australia. For this, you need to have a clear idea of which field of study you are choosing. Along with that, you need to mention why you are selecting the said subject. GTE is a way to ensure that students enter Australia with the stated intent without an ulterior motive.

Here you need to write a statement that provides evidence of your intent. It can include the past study courses you have chosen, your employment scenario, and economic and family ties to your home country.

The applicant also needs to include their country’s current financial and political situation. You want to make sure that you explain your desire to study the course in Australia and why you rejected offers back home. Along with it, you need to prove your ties to your home country and how you plan on surviving in the new country.

Your GTE will be evaluated if the investment towards your study successfully justifies your career plans and your return to your home country.

Academic Qualification

To become a student in any college & university in Australia, you need to pass the bar for it. The level you apply for has specific pre-set standards that differ according to the college or university you choose. To see if you qualify academically for the course and the university, you can visit the university’s website or educational consultancy.

Almost all colleges or universities and courses need you to have the following requirements.

➢ The Language Score: You need to achieve a specific score on the language test.

Academic Qualification: You need to have a degree equivalent to the Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education to study diploma and bachelor level courses.

Postgraduate Qualification: You need to have passed an acceptable undergraduate program in your country for this level.

English Language Proficiency

If you want to be a student in an English-speaking country, such as Australia, you need to understand and speak at a competent level. Because your study will be in English medium and you have to do the group presentations, assignments, oral examinations and written examinations

If your course requires you to present your language test scores, you must show your correct documentation and scores such as IELTS, TOEFL, CAE, TOIEC, Pearson, or OET. The courses you choose can define the test you need to take and the required scores. Students that belong to English speaking countries need not follow this rule.

You can check the English test score requirements on the website of the university you choose or consult your educational counsellor. Check the course you desire and see what level of language scores they need. You also want to check the conditions on the Department of Home Affairs site along with that.

Then, you have to ace the IELTS test or any other acceptable language test equivalent to it. Other tests can include TOEFL iBT, Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, and Cambridge Advanced English (CAE). Put your sincere effort into this as you need it in your student life.

Availability of Funds

When it comes to attaining your student visa, money does matter. You have to meet specific financial requirements to qualify for the visa. If there is a lack of funds, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) may refuse applications. Compare the fee structure between your home country, Australia, USA, Canada and preferred providers. The government will not accept the reasons for insufficient funds and you must prove that you are financially capable and the value of the course will reimburse the investment.

As a student in Australia, you are expected to have the financial ability to pay for your travel, living, and your studies. The department time to time review the financial requirements based on the various factors.

If you are bringing your spouse or children to the country, you need to cover costs for them as well. If not, you can also show documents as evidence that your spouse or parents are capable and willing to support you. They need to present documents showing an annual income of AU$60,000 minimum.

The below information is taken from the Australian Trade and Investment Commission website and is subject to change.

Heath Insurance Arrangements

You need to get the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). This is mandatory for students apart from those from Norway and Belgium. You can purchase this cover from Australian Health Management, BUPA Australia, Medibank Private, Allianz Global Assistance, and NIB OSH, all of which are verified providers. If not, you can also get detailed information through your college, university or educational counsellor.

The premium you need to pay for the OSHC depends on the time you applied for and the provider you choose.

Character Assessment

Character Assessment is a crucial section of your visa application. If you want to enter Australia as a student, you must be of good character. And it will be judged by checking your past deeds. There will be a criminal record check. If you had any brush ins with the law, it would be recorded. During your application, if the information and documents you have submitted to the Department of Home Affairs are found to be incorrect or misleading, you may need to provide further clarification. It may also lead to your visa refusal.

Thus, when you apply for your visa, you may be asked to produce a penal clearance certificate. This is also known as a Police Clearance Certificate or statement. It can clear you of being involved in any criminal activities. Presenting any false statements here can drown your chances of getting a visa.

Complete Documentation

Providing the authorities with incomplete or incorrect documents is one primary reason student visas are rejected. It would be best if your documents are organized and you are aware of presenting the required materials decision ready.

The second thing to do is check the Department of Home Affair’s website to see if you have the complete set of documents for a successful visa application. You need to proofread the forms you fill to spot any minute errors. To be sure, you can ask someone else to check it as well. You may book a session with a representative from your college, university and educational counsellor.

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection will carefully look over your documents. Here we have listed the required documents to help you create a checklist.
